THE CBI has registered two separate cases against the former Noida engineer-in-chief Yadav Singh and his family members for alleged corruption and amassing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income.

The agency Tuesday carried out searches at 16 locations, including his offices in Noida, ancestral house in Agra, his in-laws’ house in Firozabad and at the Lucknow residence (Butler Palace Colony) of his son-in-law, IAS officer Shashi Bhushan, who is currently posted as special secretary in Food & Civil Supply Department.

A CBI official said the first case was registered under criminal conspiracy and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act against Singh, his wife Kusum Lata, daughter Garima Bhushan and son Sunny Yadav and a close aide Rajendra Minocha on charges that they amassed huge movable and immovable assets between 2009 and 2014 which were disproportionate to their known sources of income.

CBI sources said it is alleged that during searches by the Income Tax department in November 2014, several incriminating documents and Income Tax Returns were allegedly recovered from Singh’s various premises.

“The scrutiny of ITRs and other connecting records have revealed that between 2009 and 2014, the total likely savings of Singh’s family was Rs 1.70 crore (approx) whereas they were in possession of immovable property worth Rs 3.60 crore (approx). Moreover, Rs 10 crore (approx) in cash was recovered from one of his associates which also reportedly belonged to Singh,” a CBI spokesperson said Tuesday.

The official said that the case was registered on the direction of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court which had directed it to conduct an investigation into allegations of corruption and amassing of unaccounted money by the accused in regard to all transactions, persons and entities connected.
The High Court had ordered a CBI probe on the petition filed by activist Nutan Thakur, wife of suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who had alleged that Singh had enjoyed plum postings under the regimes of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati and incumbent Akhilesh Yadav, and the state government was not acting against him.

The second case relates to allegations of cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act against Singh.

The accused had allegedly awarded various contracts to private persons and firms without following the procedures and thereby caused undue pecuniary gain to the tune of crores of rupees to such firms and to himself, the official said.

“The local police (Sector 39 police station, Noida) had also registered an FIR on June 13, 2012. The FIR was closed and a final report was filed in the trial court on January 30, 2014 which was accepted by the court on November 27 later that year,” the official said.
