Ambrish Chandra Sharma,a 1977 batch IPS officer,today took charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP),Uttar Pradesh. Sharma had been posted as Director General (DG) of Dr BR Ambedkar Police Academy at Moradabad.
He replaced 1976 batch IPS officer Atul Gupta,who was posted as DGP following directives of the Election Commission before the state assembly elections in January. Gupta has now been posted as DG/Commandant General of Home Guards Headquarters.
Immediately after taking charge,the new DGP said that police will not work under any political pressure. No undue political interference will be tolerated and the policemen will have to take decisions as per law,he added. He also said his priority is to ensure proper law & order and control crime in the state. The welfare of constabulary and other lower rung policemen will be another priority for him. Sharma had been posted with the police academy and at the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Moradabad since 2007 and became DG of the police academy last year.
Meanwhile,the state government tonight posted Jagmohan Yadav,a 1983 batch IPS officer,as the new ADG (Crime and Law & Order) with additional charge of ATS and STF. Yadav was posted as ADG of Police Training Centre at Moradabad.
