Never worked with Sachan: ex-CMO Shukla

Former chief medical officer of Lucknow AK Shukla said on Tuesday that he did not work with Dr YS Sachan, who died in jail on June 22.

Former chief medical officer of Lucknow AK Shukla said on Tuesday that he did not work with Dr YS Sachan, who died in jail on June 22. Shukla was named in the FIR for financial irregularities of NRHM funds along with Sachan.

Shukla met mediapersons on Tuesday and clarified that Sachan took over NRHM work five months after the charge was taken from him. “The allegations against me are completely false,” Shukla said.

“In the month of May 2010,Dr Rajendra Prasad was posted as district programme officer,Lucknow and was given charge of all NRHM activities. Prasad was posted till July 2010 and Dr Vinod Kumar took over from him as DPO in July 2010,the post which was later converted to CMO family welfare. Dr YS Sachan got himself posted as deputy-CMO NRHM in September 2010. He took over the charge of NRHM activities in October 2010 and continued till February 2011,when BP Singh took over from him on February 26,2011.”

He further said,“Thus,it is clear that Dr YS Sachan took over about five months after I left NRHM work,so there is no question of making any payment with Dr Sachan as these payments would have been done by other CMOs(family welfare).”

Claiming that the charges against him in the FIR lodged in the Wazirganj police station are false,Shukla said,“As far as allegations against me about use and payment of vehicles, these vehicles were used by Bal Mahila Chikitsalaya. I made the payments after bills and log books were verified by respective superintendents,ACMOs and accountants.”

He said hiring of manpower from a private agency was done as per provisions of a government order and payments were made “after verification of unit incharges”.

Shukla is currently posted in the state Health Directorate as Joint Director.
