Mulayam throws weight behind bahu’s political debut

Samajwadi Party president and former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav called upon the electorate of Firozabad Lok Sabha constituency to vote for his daughter-in law,Dimple Yadav who is the SP nominee for the upcoming byelection.

Samajwadi Party president and former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav called upon the electorate of Firozabad Lok Sabha constituency to vote for his daughter-in law,Dimple Yadav who is the SP nominee for the upcoming byelection.

In the name of upholding the “prestige of his party”,Mulayam appealed to the gathering to ensure the victory of Dimple, who will be the first woman from the Yadav family to play a political innings. The party has fielded her in place of her husband,Akhliesh Yadav, who was elected from two Lok Sabha constituencies, and preferred to retain Kannauj.

Even as Dimple’s name was announced more than a month ago,she has kept her distance from the media. The public meeting, held on the campus of P D Jain College in Firozabad, was the first occasion when she appeared before the public.

In her short speech,Dimple promised to undertake the development of Firozabad and said that she would serve the constituency like a “priest in a temple” or a “Maulana in a mosque”.

Firozabad is expected to see a tough battle with the Congress fielding former MP from Agra,Raj Babbar, who had earlier deserted the Samajwadi Party to join the Congress.

Firozabad has a substantial population of Yadavs and Muslims. Besides, there are a good number of Lodh voters in this constituency.
