With the much awaited pre-monsoon showers lashing parts of northern UP in the last 24 hours,the conditions have become favourable for the onset of rains in the state. The showers not only gave relief to the people from extreme humid conditions,but also to paddy and sugarcane farmers.

According to the Met officials,within the next two days,monsoon showers may begin in eastern UP and cover the entire state in a week. It may hit Lucknow in the next three days. For Saturday,the Met department predicted a generally cloudy sky with rain and thundershowers at some places.

“A low pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal and it has strengthened the monsoon that had lost steam after reaching near the UP-Bihar border. The pressure has pushed the monsoon current into UP,” said J P Gupta,Director In-charge of the state Met department. Saying that the usual time for the arrival of monsoon is between June 15 to 18,Gupta said: “After 14 years,monsoon is entering the state in July.”

On Friday,maximum rainfall recorded in Gonda was 108.2 mm. Other areas which reported rains were Faizabad (52 mm),Kaiserganj (65 mm),Dumariyaganj (40 mm),Sultanpur (24 mm),Balrampur (18.5 mm) and Gorakhpur (7.8 mm).
