After heading towards the state on a normal pace till Friday, monsoon has got struck at the borders of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar there is no respite in sight for the state from the severe heat till June 22-23. Earlier, the Meteorological Department had predicted a normal monsoon for the state, but on Saturday, they declared it as delayed.
Monsoon has become weak at the UP border because easterly winds generated from the Bay of Bengal had weakened on Friday. It will revive again when temperature rises in Rajasthan and easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal develops a force, said J P Gupta,Met Director of Uttar Pradesh. The conditions for the further advancement of monsoon may become favorable by June 23-24. Pre-monsoon showers with thundershowers may start in parts of the state from June 22, he added.
According to Met officials, monsoon would enter the state from the eastern region and take at least five to six days to cover the others regions. Monsoon normally enters Uttar Pradesh by June 15 to 19 and withdraws in mid-September.
Meanwhile, humid conditions prevailed in the state on Saturday. Met authorities predicted that weather conditions would remain same for the next couple of days. The sky would be cloudy on Sunday and chances of rain and thundershowers are likely in isolated areas. But that will not change the humid weather conditions, said Gupta.
