Model code: CEO orders probe into complaint against Joshi

Umesh Sinha has ordered an inquiry into a complaint of violation of model code of conduct allegedly done by Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Umesh Sinha has ordered an inquiry into a complaint of violation of model code of conduct allegedly done by Rita Bahuguna Joshi,UP Congress Committee president and party candidate from Lucknow Cantonment Assembly constituency.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Lucknow Cantonment Suresh Tiwari filed the complaint alleging that Joshi was continuously using musical bands during her poll campaign in various areas of the constituency for the last three days. Tiwari also alleged that Congress workers were erecting her hoardings and flex boards on electricity as well as telephone poles as part of the campaign.

“All these activities are in violation of code of conduct and the Election Commission must take action in the matter,” Tiwari said.

In the same complaint letter,another BJP MLA from Lucknow West,Suresh Srivastava,alleged that candidates of other parties were indulging in wall writings in Lucknow West constituency.

When asked about the complaint,the CEO said: “I have received these complaints and directed the district administration to inquire into the matter.”

Lucknow Additional District Magistrate OP Arya said: “The returning officer concerned and police have been directed to inquire into the matter and take appropriate action.”
