Minority call: Cong to hit Lucknow streets today

The Congress has alleged that the Mayawati government did not utilise as much as Rs 1,400 crore provided by the Centre for welfare programmes for minorities.

The procession will commence from the Martyrs Memorial at Mahatma Gandhi Marg and conclude in Hazratganj. “It’s not a rally but a march where people from all walks of life will participate,” said Manzoor Ahmed,chairman of the minorities department of the Congress.

“Thegovernment has not distributed scholarships,jobs to youths and financial aid to girls for wedding under the central sponsored schemes,” Aslam said. The BSP government had not implemented the hike in the wages of the teachers and employees of the Madarsa as provided in the Centrally sponsored scheme.

He said,based on the recommendations of Sachar committee,the Centre had devised a “multi-sectoral development of minority concentrated districts” and 90 districts were identified in India,21 districts were in UP.
