Milkipur, Erode East Bypoll Highlights: The voter turnout in Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur constituency was 65.35%, while Erode East in Tamil Nadu saw a turnout of 64.02% on Wednesday. Over 3.78 lakh voters in Milkipur will cast their votes via EVMs to decide the fate of 10 candidates contesting from the seat. Meanwhile, 2.27 lakh voters will decide the fate of 46 candidates in the Erode East constituency today. The counting of votes for both constituencies will take place on Saturday, February 8.

Tough battle between Samajwadi Party, BJP in Milkipur: A total of 10 candidates are contesting the Milkipur bypoll, with the main competition being between the Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The top two candidates in fray are BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan and SP’s Ajit Prasad. The stakes in the bypoll in Milkipur, which is in Ayodhya district, were raised by SP’s Awadhesh Prasad’s surprise win from Faizabad in last year’s Lok Sabha polls that came just months after the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Oppn boycotts Erode East bypoll: Voting for by-poll to the Erode East Assembly constituency commenced at 7 am on Wednesday, amid heavy police protection. Polling will be held in 237 booths across 53 locations. Owing to cold conditions, people did not turn up in big numbers at the start of the polling but more voters are expected later in the day, officials said. A total of 46 candidates are in fray Erode East, out of which 44 are independent candidates. The DMK has fielded former MLA V C Chandrakumar while M K Seethalakshmi is the NTK’s pick.
