Meerut wrestlers hog limelight

Women wrestlers from Chaudhary Charan Singh University,Meerut grabbed 5 golds and 3 silvers in the 7th UP State Games at KD Singh Babu Stadium,Lucknow.

Women wrestlers from Chaudhary Charan Singh University,Meerut grabbed 5 golds and 3 silvers in the 7th UP State Games at KD Singh Babu Stadium,Lucknow. The gold medal winners from the varsity were Kavita,Archana Tomar,Divyanshi Tyagi,Apoorva Tyagi and Babita Gurjar. Sheetal Tomar (Meerut) and Anshu Tomar (Baghpat) also claimed golds in their respective weight categories.

Muzaffarnagar defeated Varanasi by 24-5 in the kabaddi final. In the netball,Ghaziabad outclassed Varanasi by 37-11 in the women’s section final while Ghaziabad beat Varanasi by 28-16 in the men’s section final.

Babu Hockey
Defending champions Uttar Pradesh registered an impressive 15-0 win in their opening encounter of the All India KD Singh ‘Babu’ Sub-Junior Boys Hockey Tournament which commenced at Dhyanchand stadium,Lucknow on Monday. In the other matches,Andhra Pradesh defeated Delhi by 5-0 while Bhiwani beat Uttarakhand by 16-0.

The tournament was inaugurated by Olympian Aslam Sher Khan. Talking to mediapersons,Aslam said that national championships should be organised in different age categories in order to give the players a proper platform to showcase their talent. He said that he was against the formation of Hockey India. There was need of bringing reforms in IHF rather than forming a new hockey body, he said.
