Chief Minister Mayawati handed tough deadlines to her officials for the completion of various development and welfare schemes on Monday. The focus was particularly on the Ambedkar villages and the housing for urban poor.

Officials have been told to begin work on war footing in 2,224 Ambedkar villages selected for development during the 2010-11 fiscal. The pucca roads and drains must be completed by April 30,she directed. The development work should be completed by the end of December. She also directed the Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department to ensure the quality of the construction works.The estimates of the development schemes and other works should be completed by the first week of May.

The directives came after the chief minister was apprised of the results of a review meeting presided by the cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh and attended by secretaries,principal secretaries and divisional commissioners on Monday.

Reviewing the progress of works in Ambedkar villages,Mayawati directed for the installation and proper maintenance of 10,000 solar lights there. She said the construction of the community centers in villages should be completed by the end of May.

A policy should be formulated for the maintenance and conservation of assets in the villages. Asking for the effective disposal of complaints received from the villagers during the ‘Tehsil diwas’,Mayawati directed that a digital diary be created containing the details of development works.

Regarding the progress of the Kanshiram Housing Scheme for the urban poor,she directed that the possession of the houses constructed during 2008-09 be handed over the allottees by April 20. The remaining work should be completed by May-end.

The construction of the houses taken up during 2009-10 should be completed in the next eight months and possession be given to allottees by December-end.

Mayawati also directed that the process of identification of beneficiaries for the ‘Mahamaya scheme for financial assistance for the poor’ be completed by September,so the poor get the financial assistance from October. This scheme was launched on her birthday on January 15.

Directing tough action against criminal elements in building contracts and other development works,she told the officials to ensure that the reservation for the SC/ST in award of government contracts be properly implemented.
