“Thousands of crores of rupees were siphoned away for the construction of these memorials. Those who are guilty of corruption will not be spared. There is no harm if we utilise these memorials for social functions. They will be given to poor people for organising their functions,” Akhilesh said.

Akhilesh had aired similar views last Thursday in Lucknow. He had justified his stand saying that memorials will receive publicity if weddings and other functions are held there. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had,however,objected to it and submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Governor.
