“During interrogation, the suspects revealed that the tools used to slaughter cows were hidden in a forest in Jhabhapuri. We recovered two country-made pistols, knives, and other tools used in the slaughter,” an official said.
Two accused in a cow slaughter case — a 47-year-old man and his son — were injured in an encounter when they were being taken to recover tools used in the crime in Meerut, police said on Wednesday.
According to officials, Razzaq and his son Usman, 22, opened fire at a police team which took them to recover the tools allegedly used for slaughtering cows.
The implements were hidden in sugarcane fields near a forest area, they said.
Cow meat was allegedly recovered and seven people, including the father-son duo, were arrested on Tuesday, police said. The officials said that the incident took place under the Parikshitgarh police station area.
Razzaq and Usman, who were wounded in their legs, were taken to a community health centre for treatment, officials said.
Meerut (Rural) Superintendent of Police Abhijeet Kumar said, “Acting on information, a team reached a house in Asifabad and recovered 10 kg beef. We have sent the recovered meat for tests, the reports of which will arrive in two weeks,” he said.
Razzaq’s wife is among those arrested.
