A man posing as an agent of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), who had allegedly duped several people was arrested from Hazratganj area here Friday. Two cars with blue beacons mounted on them, a lighter gun, five fake identity cards of National Technical Research Organisation were also recovered from his possession, police said.
According to police, a case was lodged against Rajdeo Das, a resident of Kolkata, by one Birpal Bhatia in Hazratganj on Friday, alleging that he was duped of Rs 8 lakh by the accused.
Hazratganj circle officer Ashok Kumar Verma said Das had promised to supply phones and laptops to Bhatia but did not do so. “He used to move in a blue beacon Honda CRB and a Bolero car, and introduce himself as an agent of RAW, so people did not complain against him. There are several others who have been duped by him with the promises of facilitating arms licenses,” said Verma.
According to police, the cars recovered from him had ‘Government of India’ written on them along with a fake letter of state government authorising the use of blue beacons on the vehicles.
Police have sought the details of his activities from Kolkata, Delhi and Noida, where he had been based before he moved to Gomti Nagar area in Lucknow.
Police said Das’s father worked as a financial controller at HAL in Amethi where he began his schooling and later studied in Kolkata and Delhi. He had previously worked at a telecommunication company and HCL Business Developers in Noida.
