The investigation into the case was transferred to CBI on recommendation of the state government and the CBI registered the case last week.

The CBI has begun investigation into the alleged kidnapping of Lucknow-based Puskar Kumar (35) who has been missing from Bareilly since 2009. Puskar is nephew of retired Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police C K Malik.

The investigation into the case was transferred to CBI on recommendation of the state government and the CBI registered the case last week.

The CBI officials have met the victim’s family and also visited Bareilly to take the documents related to the case from Bareilly police. Puskar’s father PNL Das was a joint director in UP Education Department. He died in 2001.

A resident of Lucknow’s Naka Hindola locality,Puskar had gone to Bareilly to open a coaching institute. He last contacted his mother,Leela Das,a retired government official,on November 4,2006. When Puskar did not contact his family for long, his mother lodged a complaint about his disappearance with the Naka Hindola police in December,2009.

Later, the case was transferred to Bareilly for investigation when it was found that Puskar went missing from Bareilly.

During investigation the police found that Puskar was staying at a rented accommodation in Rajendra Nagar locality under Prem Nagar police circle in Bareilly. The police also found that money from Puskar’s bank account had been withdrawn on fake signatures.

The police later registered a case against Puskar’s landlord R K Jain, his son Sumit Jain and his girlfriend Anjali Pandey on various charges, including kidnapping and forgery.
