In a case of suspected honour killing,a youth was allegedly murdered by his girlfriends brother in Mandi area of Muzaffarnagar district. The woman,Anshu Tomar (20),is still missing.
The body of Ajit Saini (21) was recovered from a deserted field on Thursday night and was identified on Friday,said Muzaffarnagar Senior Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar,adding that the victims throat was slit and gashes were also found on his legs.
According to a police officer,Sainis father had informed police that his son had left home on April 25 saying he was going to Pune for some work.
Following a complaint filed by Ajits family,the girls father,Narendra Tomar,and brother Anuj were arrested on Saturday,Superintendent of Police Rajiv Malhotra said.
During interrogation,Anuj confessed to have killed Ajit for tarnishing the familys image, the officer claimed.
According to Anuj,his sister had eloped several times with Ajit despite repeated warnings by the family.
According to preliminary investigation,Ajit,a BCA student at a private institute,had an affair with Anshu,a BA second year student at a city college. The woman belongs to Badaut area of Baghpat district and was staying at her aunts place in Mandi area.
According to the SP,the couple had eloped in February after Anshus family opposed their relationship. After assurances from the family that they would solemnise their marriage,Anshu had returned home two weeks later. However,the womans family members restricted her movement,but the couple again managed to escape on April 18. The family members,however,managed to convince the couple and brought the woman home the following day.
