The police arrested the 20-year-old accused. The girl had allegedly eloped with the man twice in the past, police said citing her family members. “We traced them and brought them back. She was handed over to her family while the man was also let off as her family members refused to register a complaint,” said Kamlesh Bahadur, Superintendent of Police (Meerut rural).
On Wednesday, she was planning to elope again with him. Her brother got to know and he tried to reason with her . She insisted that she would marry the man, the police said. She ran out of the house but her brother chased her and allegedly beat her up the road.
He later strangled her, police said. The man with whom she eloped earlier was also arrested, police said.
