A history-sheeter was shot dead by two police constables after he shot at an undertrial in Shalimar Express near the Deoband railway station in Saharanpur district on Wednesday.

The undertrial,Naresh alias Bobby, was being taken from Bareilly to Muzaffarnagar for a court hearing. The constables accompanying Naresh shot dead Danish —the history-sheeter — but his three associates managed to flee. Naresh was rushed to the Muzaffarnagar government hospital from where he was referred to the Meerut Medical College.

The incident took place around 8.30 am when the train arrived at Deoband. Four men entered the coach in which Naresh and the constables were travelling. One of them, who was later identified as Danish, fired at Naresh with a 9 mm pistol. The bullet hit Naresh in the abdomen.

Immediately, the constables retaliated, shooting Danish while his associates escaped. Danish also tried to flee, but collapsed on the platform. As the train had started moving by then, the constables preferred to take Naresh to Muzaffarnagar. “The constables of the Saharanpur GRP rushed Danish to a government hospital in Deoband where he succumbed to his injuries. Danish was a history-sheeter and had several cases of murder lodged against him in the Deoband police station,” said Dilip Kumar,Senior Sub-Inspector of Saharanpur GRP. “Danish had been in jail for four years until he got bail about 10 days ago,” said Kumar.

The ADG (Railways) A K Jain said that the Muzaffarnagar GRP have registered two cases — one of encounter with the police and another of attack on Naresh.
