Malik,Malkeet reach snooker doubles final

The doubles combination of veteran Ishtmit Singh Malik and the state juniors snooker champion,Malkeet Singh sailed into the snooker doubles event final of the 11th Annual Pool Palace billiards and snooker prize money challenge tournament on the sixth day here at the Sector G,Aliganj situated snooker parlour.

Thursday evening witnessed the mastery of the victors on the green baize in no uncertain terms as the experience and craft of Malik and the explosive potting of Malkeet was too much for the opponents. The victors won the match in straight frames by 75-63 and 66-44 points with a degree of comfort.

Walk race
A 5-km walk race will be organised by the Regional Sports Office,Lucknow inside the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. The race which is being organised in the men’s section,will be flagged off at 7.00 am on Saturday.

Ranji Trophy trials
The UP Ranji Trophy team trials commenced at Green Park Stadium,Kanpur on Friday. The duration of the trials is from October 1 to 3.

Media manager UPCA IM Rohatgi informed that on day-one of the trials about 138 players turned up for the trials and their number was reduced to about 85 based by the selection committee. “After the trials,a list of 30 probables will be announced and they will be attending a camp which will be organised at Kamla Club,Kanpur from October 4 to 6. After this camp the Ranji Trophy team will be announced.”

Soccer camp
For the first time,Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sub-Centre,Lucknow is playing host to the Senior Women’s Football Camp. The duration of the camp is from October 1 to 31.

Director of the centre Sanjay Saraswat informed that the camp is a part of the long term training development programme. The total strength of the camp is around 43 players and at the end of the camp the number is likely to be reduced in accordance to the merit list made on the basis of players’ performance. More such camps will be organised before the national team will be announced.”

Nayudu cricket
DIOS XI triumphed in both its matches on Friday in the under-19 CK Nayudu Cricket Tournament being organised at NR Stadium,Lucknow. In the first match,it defeated DDR XI by six runs while in its second match DIOS XI defeated Joint Director XI by six wickets.

DIOS XI:
94 for five in 20 overs ( Mukesh Chowdhary 32,Abhinav Jaiswal 32; Chetan Gulati 2 for 20); DDR XI: 88 for seven in 20 overs ( Harshit Shukla 29,J Rajpoot 16,Sohail Naqvi 16; Ashutosh Singh 4 for 9).

(2nd match):-
Joint Director XI: 46 for seven in 15 overs ( Anurag Sharma 23; Rajiv Yadav 3 for 10,Mukesh Chowdhary 3 for 9); DIOS XI: 47 for four in 10.1 overs ( M Chowdhary 11,Abhinav 11; Shubham Rahi 2 for 4).

Match tied
The match between Gavaskar XI and Sachin XI in the Under-16 Vinoo Mankad Cricket Tournament ended in a tie with both the teams scoring 67 runs.
