Lucknow: Minor ‘rape’ victim attempts to kill herself

The victim’s elder sister on Wednesday got an FIR lodged at the Nagar police station against the boy, who too is a minor.

A 16-year-old , who had attempted to commit suicide by consuming poisonous substance and was admitted to hospital on November 12, Tuesday alleged that she took the step after allegedly being raped by a boy from her village in Basti district.

The victim’s elder sister on Wednesday got an FIR lodged at the Nagar police station against the boy, who too is a minor.

Station Officer, Nagar police station, Omkar Sahai said that the victim was discharged from BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur. They would get her medical examination done Thursday and later her statement would be recorded before the magistrate.

Sahai said that according to the complaint, on November 12 evening the girl had gone to the field where the 16-year-old boy caught and raped her. The girl did not inform the family members and consumed some insecticide after she returned home. Family members rushed her to the district hospital from where she was referred to Gorakhpur, he said.

The Station Officer added that the victim gained consciousness two days ago and told her elder sister that she had consumed poison following the sexual assault.

The accused is yet to be detained, said Sahai.
