Concerned about several issues pending with various government departments,Lucknow University officials on Monday,in a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani, raised an alarm by discussing them one after the other.
The long list of issues pending at the governmental level is causing losses to the university. The meeting reviewed the status of these issues and suggested ways to expedite them, LU Vice-Chancellor Dr S B Nimse said.
University officials said they were facing difficulty in obtaining more projects and funds from the state government due to the delay in completion of the audit process. The audit has been going on for long and we requested that a decision on the audit be made as soon as possible, the V-C added.
With a majority of the universitys developmental grants going into the salaries of staff, officials intend to draw the required attention towards it. In 10 days time, the university will hold a meeting with the Finance Department to decide on the grants and salaries, the V-C said.
During the free laptop distribution ceremony in July this year, the vice-chancellor had apprised Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of the incurment of Rs 87 crore on annual salaries,of which about Rs 53 crore is met with development fund.
Another important issue raised during the meeting was the audit of 14 development works in the university. A few weeks ago,the Local Fund Audit Examination Department had alleged that PACCFED and UPTRON Limited, construction firms that had undertaken works at the university, were not furnishing the requisite information.
The V-C further informed of a meeting with the Social Welfare Department,to be held soon, regarding the arrears against zero fee for eligible students. Details such as the exact amount pending will be finalised then, Dr Nimse said.
As the university did not receive reimbursement for the first semester from the welfare Department,it stopped these students from continuing into the third semester. Although that decision has been reversed now, LU spokesperson Prof N K Pandey said.
The university, however, did not raise the issue of student union elections in the meeting. We have already sent a letter to the state government as per the high court order and hence this was not in the agenda, the V-C added.
