A police team from Farrukkabad, which had gone to arrest an alleged supplier of countrymade pistols, was attacked by locals in Bakewar police station area in Etawah on Tuesday. The accused — Intizar Khan — managed to escape following the chaos.
Station House Officer, Bakewar police station, Ashok Kumar said an FIR was lodged against Intizar and 15 unidentified persons on a complaint of Brijesh Yadav, in-charge of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Farukkabad Police.
When contacted, Yadav said they were informed about an arms supplier who was said to be coming at Mohammadabad crossing in Farrukkabad to deliver a consignment. Around 3 am, they spotted a car and gestured the driver to stop. However, the driver sped away and a 10-member police team began to chase the vehicle, he said.
Yadav said when the car reached Subhash Nagar locality in Bakewar area of Etawah, the car’s driver, later identified as Intizar, ran inside his house and started shouting for help.
Family members and locals entered in a scuffle with the police team, allowing Intizar to escape. The matter was soon sorted out after intervention by few local residents, he added. Intizar has several criminal cases pending against him and was earlier arrested in 2011 with 17 countrymade pistols in Mainpuri, Yadav added.
