Ramlakhan, former assistant inspector general in Stamp and Registration Department who formally joined BSP on Saturday,is considered a useful face for the party to woo the Pasi community ahead of the 2012 election. The former bureaucrat had opted for voluntary retirement a week ago.
Keeping in mind that he has been associated with Pasi Samaj since his service days,BSP chief and CM Mayawati has appointed Ramlakhan as the partys coordinator of Pasi Bhaichara. The Pasi community, which falls under SC category and has a substantial population in the three divisions of Lucknow,Allahabad and Faizabad, has not been voting for the BSP in large numbers.
Sources said Mayawati, who first met Ramlakhan on July 5 to discuss his possible roles in the party, gave him a list of over 100 constituencies and told him to dedicate his energy for strengthening the BSPs base among the Pasi voters.
Ramlakhan will work with Pasi Bhaichara in tandem with the partys main body. He has been accommodated in the team headed by partys zonal coordinator Jugul Kishore, said a party insider.
The whos who present at the function where Ramlakhan was formally inducted into the party fold only indicated Mayawatis special focus on Pasi votes.
Ramlakhan is second former government employee to join the BSP. Earlier,Tribhuvan Ram,who recently retired from as PWDs Engineer-in-chief,is set to become ruling BSP candidate from Ajagara seat in Varanasi district.
