The Lakhimpur Kheri police have arrested a Sri Lankan national for illegally staying in India. The police arrested him after he failed to produce any documents. The accused identified himself as Ismat,a native of Sri Lankas Colombo district,police said. He was arrested from Mirzaganj locality in Nighasan area. On Saturday,the police produced him before the court which sent him to judicial custody. Additional SP,Kheri,B B Singh said they are verifying details obtained from the arrested person. A case against Ismat has been lodged under Foreigners Act and Passport Act.
According to police,they were informed by a person that a suspicious person was seen moving in Mirzaganj locality. The police rushed to the place and brought him to the police station.
During questioning,the accused claimed to be a Sri Lankan national and had come to Kheri around two days back.
Station Officer,Nighasan police station,Shiv Gopal Singh said when they questioned him about the documents including passport and visa,the accused failed to provide them. He told the police that he came to Kheri from Bahraich on tour. He claimed to be staying in India for the last eight years and that he is married a girl from Chennai,where he had opened a shop too.
