Petite,well-trained feet flit on the stage. Dressed in traditional Korean garments,32 pairs of limbs sway in unison, often bringing tears to those in the audience. Little Angels Children’s Folk Ballet of Korea is known to bring with it,apart from the traditional Korean folk performing arts,a few tear-jerking moments. Established in 1962 by Korean religious leader Sun Myung Moon and his wife,to convey gratitude to countries that had sent medical reinforcements to South Korea during the Korean war,the troupe that has travelled to over 50 countries and performed at prestigious venues — including the White House,Buckingham Palace and the UN General Assembly Hall — will have its second performance in India,at Siri Fort auditorium, today.

“The Little Angels don’t get older and remain between eight and 15 years of age,” said Dr Bo Hi Pak,chairman of Korean Culture Foundation. The performance in the Capital marks the culmination of the year-long tour, during which the group performed in 16 United Nations member nations. “We are planning to open a Korean cultural centre in India, since India already has one in Seoul. It will be a window to Korean culture in India,” said Kim Joong Keun,Korean ambassador to India. For now,the audience can look forward to dances based on Korean legends. The repertoire of the little ambassadors of peace includes the Flower Crow Dance, based on ancient court dance, and Hourglass Drum Dance, performed on the music of the hourglass drum.
