Kanpur Congress leaders push on in turf war

A day after the supporters of two senior Congress leaders — Union Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal and Govind Nagar legislator Ajay Kapoor — clashed, the internal bickering between the two leaders continued.

Kapoor claimed that the Saturday violence was premeditated by Jaiswal’s brother Pramod and son Siddarth. “It was an act of political vendetta led by Jaiswal’s family members,” he said.

“The party had appointed me as the in-charge of Akbarpur Lok Sabha seat and as our candidate Raja Ram Pal is in a strong position, few party members are scared of my increasing political stature.”

According to Kapoor, the incident will be reported to the party seniors at New Delhi. “I do not believe in the issue of supremacy in Kanpur South. Being a dedicated Congress member,I have kept the party flag flying high and will continue to do so,” he added.

In the meanwhile,Jaiswal claimed that a fake FIR has been registered against his family members and the other Congress members. “After the polling on April 30,my son left for Mumbai for some work. Therefore, how is his involvement in the incident possible?” said Jaiswal.

Without naming Kapoor,he said that those who attacked Congress members at Pokharpur area have registered a fake FIR as an act of self defence.

Superintendent of Police (Kanpur East) Dharamveer Singh said: “We have started the investigations and if it is found that a fake FIR has been registered, then action will be initiated against the guilty.”
