Jail warders accused of rape

According to the police,the victim,a dalit woman,had come from Auraiya district to meet her husband Rajveer Singh lodged in Farrukhabad Central Jail. She was reportedly drugged before being raped at the house of one of the accused on the jail campus.

On Friday,jail inmate Rajveer Singh filed a complaint with Farrukhabad Central Jail Superintendent,Yagvendra Shukla stating that four jail warders had reportedly raped his wife on August 22. The Jail Superintendent forwarded the application to district police to look into the matter and take action on the basis of its finding.

The Farrukhabad police have registered the case at the Kotwali on charges of rape and SC/ST Act against four warders and also sent the victim for medical examination. No one has been arrested. “We are waiting for medical report and would take step on the basis of its finding,” said Inspector Kamrul Hasan of the Kotwali police station. He added that inmate Rajveer Singh did not mention in his complaint how he came to know about the incident.

“As per complaint,after the incident his wife,a dalit woman,left for her residence in Auraiya and did not met him. We asked Rajveer Singh about it but he refused to tell,” said Inspector Hasan. Sources said,Rajveer Singh came to know about the incident through jail staff.

The suspended warders are Krishna Murari,Musharraf Ali,Ajay and Bikesh. They were suspended after they found guilty in a preliminary inquiry ,said Senior Jail Superintendent Yadvendra Shukla.

He added that inquiry is on and it would be part of it to find out how Rajveer Singh came to know about the incident.

Rajveer Singh,26,is a convicted prisoner and is lodged in Farrukhabad Central Jail since March 2010. He was earlier lodged in Etawah jail. Rajveer Singh was convicted by the session court in a gang rape case.

According to the police,on August 22 Rajveer Singh’s wife came to jail to meet her husband. Since she reached jail in the evening,the jail staff refused to allow meet her husband.

The woman decided to wait for next day. At the campus she met jail warder Ajay who took her to his house located on the jail campus. Ajay offered her laced tea after which she fell unconscious. “Complaint stated that Ajay and three other jail warders Krishna Murari,Musharraf Ali and Bikesh had raped her. The house of Ajay is located on the premises of the Central jail,” said Jail Superintendent Shukla.
