Five months after the UP Police Recruitment & Promotion Board declared the list of successful candidates for the posts of 35,000 constables in UP police, the Directorate of Police Training is yet to start the training of the recruits in absence of necessary infrastructure.
On the other hand, the board has got sanction from the government to begin the recruitment of 40,000 more constables and the process is likely to start next month.
The Director General (DG) of Training,Babu Lal Yadav, said,We are ready with our faculty and other training component, but we have been waiting for the Police Housing Corporation to hand us the buildings. The corporation was given a budget of Rs 48 crore for construction in two phases of hostels, toilets and classrooms in the districts where the training has to be conducted.
He further said,Unless the corporation completes the work,we cannot say when we will start the training.
An official of the Police Housing Corporation said the work, which was spread over 64 districts, was almost over but it came to standstill in the districts which were affected by floods.
The corporation has suffered huge losses after damages to building material and construction in flood-affected districts like Bahraich,Sidhhartha Nagar and Gonda.
However, they hope they will be able to hand over the buildings to the training directorate by the end of October, the official said.
The recruits have to undergo a nine-month indoor and outdoor training at around 100 designated centres selected by the directorate. These include eight existing police training centres and schools, new training centres created at 30 PAC battalions and reserve police lines of 64 districts. The housing corporation was given the job of constructing classrooms, hostels and bathrooms at the police lines.
The existing police training centres and schools have infrastructure for 5,200 recruits while the PAC battalions can accommodate another 10,000 recruits. The rest of the 19,800 recruits have to attend training at reserve police lines.
The training directorate has identified and trained 450 sub-inspectors and hired 364 retired teachers of various police training schools on contract for indoor-teaching. The directorate has also trained 1,300 instructors for providing field-training.
