Ex-gratia to kin of those killed in tiger,leopard attacks
LUCKNOW: The state Forest department has decided to provide up to Rs 10,000 as ex-gratia to the next of the kin of those killed in a tiger or leopard attack.
The Tiger Conservation Society took the decision on Thursday at a meeting presided over by the principal secretary to the Forest department.
In case of an adult or a minor killed in the attack,the society has decided to provide Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. The department will also release Rs 5,000 for treatment in case a person sustains injuries in such attacks.
If a cattle or an animal dies in an attack,the owner will have to hand over its remains to the department. Following this,he will be given an amount as decided by the government under the ex-gratia payment rules.
The department will also set up and train rapid response teams at division and range level in forests to track and tranquilise tigers and leopards moving out of their habitat.

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh IPS Association today held a meeting at the Lucknow Police officers mess to discuss various issues to be raised before the government.
The president of the association,D P Sinha,presided over the meeting,where over 35 IPS officers including IGs and DIGs of different ranges attended the meeting.
A senior IPS officer present in the meeting said that the issues which will be included in the charter of demands are making police commissioner system in nine of the districts where DIG rank officers are posted as SSPs,restoring the zone system,promotion of the DIG to IG and IG rank officers to the ADG rank and to revoke the suspension of two of the IPS officers Ajay Mishra and Ikramul Haq.
Mishra and Haq are under suspension since May and January respectively.
BSP makes inroads in MP,Rajasthan
LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Mayawati thanked the voters of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for the success of the party candidates in the local body elections in the two states. For the first time,the BSP captured two municipal corporation seats in MP,Satna and Singrauli. A total of 151 corporators of the BSP were elected to different urban local bodies in MP. In Rajasthan,the BSP,for the first time,won the election of chairman of the Rajgarh Municipal Board.
Man gets life imprisonment for killing brother
ETAH: A person was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for murdering his brother over a family dispute. On Thursday,Special Judge A K Tripathi sentenced Dev Singh to life imprisonment for murdering his brother Phool Singh. Dev had shot dead his brother eight years ago in the districts Nagla village.
Seven arrested for looting businessmen
ETAH: At least seven robbers were arrested for allegedly looting two businessmen,police said on Friday. The police have also recovered Rs 3.91 lakh,two mobile phones,seven pistols and cartridges from them. We have arrested the robbers for stealing from the businessmen and firing on them, SP R K Chaturvedi said.
