Action against docs involved in private practice: Minister
Taking note of reports that government doctors are involved in private practice,the state government has decided to take strict action against those who flout norms. The government has asked senior officials of the Health department to review the number of surgeries performed by doctors,said Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra. If there is a decline in the number,strict disciplinary action should be initiated against doctors, Mishra said at a review meeting. The minister will review the situation for two months and then initiate action if need be. The government,he said,had agreed to pay non-practising allowance to the doctors,and now it was the duty of doctors to perform their job sincerely.
Engineers body to go on indefinite strike from August
Demanding promotions,the Uttar Pradesh Engineers Association (UPEA) has decided to go on an indefinite strike in August. The engineers state level body will hold a meeting in Lucknow on July 31 to decide on the date. On Wednesday,the UPEA staged a dharna at the Public Works department headquarters in Lucknow to mark their protest against the state governments inaction regarding their demands. Engineers from 22 districts participated in dharna. The state government is not promoting engineers in various departments from over a year now. Positions of engineers-in-chief,chief engineers and executive engineers are lying vacant in different departments, said A A Farooqui,UPEA president.
The state Medical and Health department has issued instructions to revive all arrangements made last year to control and monitor swine flu in Uttar Pradesh. The three main hospitals in Lucknow Balrampur Hospital,Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital have been named centres for collection of samples for swine flu test. Director General (Medical and Health) Dr R R Bharti has asked district hospitals to allocate isolation wards,rapid response teams and 24-hour control rooms.
