Statewide drive against spurious liquor
In the wake of the Ghaziabad hooch tragedy which left four people dead on February 26,the Uttar Pradesh Police have launched a statewide drive against spurious liquor,officials said on Sunday. “All the district police chiefs including DIGs and SPs have been asked to check manufacturing and sale of illicit liquor in their respective areas,” said a source. “The in-charge of the police station concerned would immediately be sacked in case any death due to spurious liquor is reported from his area,” said an official. The drive would be carried out jointly by the police and Excise department.

Governor to meet public on Holi
Governor B L Joshi will meet the public on the occasion of Holi between 4 and 5 pm at Raj Bhawan on Monday. On Sunday,the Governor exchanged greetings with all the officers and employees of Raj Bhawan.

 

Lt Gen J K Mohanty retires  
Lt Gen J K Mohanty, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Army Command,retired on Sunday after nearly 41 years of service in the Armed Forces. He took over the reins of Central Command on January 1,2009 from Lt Gen H S Panag.
