Constable suspended in rape case arrested
Police constable Arun Kumar Yadav,who was suspended on Wednesday after a woman accused him of raping her,was arrested from Lucknow’s Aishbagh railway station on Thursday. Yadav,who was was attached with Aishbagh police outpost,allegedly raped the 22-year-old woman at his friend’s house in Aliganj. “He was arrested when he was on his way to the Aishbagh police outpost,” said Sarang Dhar Dwivedi,in-charge of the Bazar Khala police station.

Two students commit suicide in Lucknow
After failing to do well in examinations,two girls allegedly committed suicide in Lucknow on Thursday. In the first incident,Puja Parihar (21) committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Rajajipuram area. “A suicide note was recovered in which Puja has stated that she committed suicide as she failed to meet the expectations of her parents,” said Yadunath,acting Station Officer of Talkatora. According to her parents,Puja was depressed as last year,she had failed to clear her BA second-year examination. This year too she did not do well. In another incident,Nisha (22) was found hanging in her room at her residence in Chinhat area. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. “Her parents said she was depressed as she did not do well in BBA examinations,” said SHO (Chinhat) Prithviraj Chauhan.

Cellphone racket busted,four held
The manager and three other employees of a mobile handset selling firm,The Mobile Store Shop,were arrested on charges of forgery and conspiracy in Lucknow on Thursday. The accused — Arun Singh Bhadauriya,Amit Kumar Srivastava,Alok Kumar Verma and Ahivaran Pal— were operating a racket from six outlets and warehouse of a leading mobile company in Alambagh. “The employees were causing loss to the company by showing the delivery of fresh handsets as ‘dead when received’.

3 held for duping through friendship club
Police unearthed a racket where two girls and a youth used to dupe people by promising them new friends through a friendship club. One of the accused told the police that people were asked to deposit Rs 1,500 to 2,000 for making friends through telephone. After the money was transferred,the callers were given new cellphone numbers to speak to ‘friends’ which used to go out of service after a few days.
