LUCKNOW: The Bareilly police registered a case against Delhi-based publication Evergreen Publication India Ltd on Friday for publishing a book on Sanskrit containing a derogatory word referring to a caste. The police have raided BBL School at CB Ganj area where the book was prescribed for Class V students. Over a dozen books have been seized from the school and two bookshops in Lucknow. Bareilly SP (City) Rakesh Jolly said a guardian,Brahma Swaroop Sagar,had objected to students being taught the derogatory word. Following this,a case under Section 153 A of the IPC and SC/ST Act has been registered at the City Kotwali against the publication. The school authorities have given an undertaking that the book will be not used anymore in the institution.

Fake factory unit busted in Kanpur
KANPUR: In one of the biggest raids,a joint team of the district administration and the Kanpur Nagar Nigam recovered fake food spices and adulterated fruit beer worth crores from an illegal factory in the Ompurva area on Friday. Though the owners of Laxmi Udyog Factory are yet to be traced,the Chakeri police have arrested one Munna Singh and four other employees from the factory.
The owner of the property,where the factory is located,Rajiv Gupta,had given the place on rent to two persons — Pawan Gupta and Raju Gupta — who had been running the unit for the last three years.
While the unit has been sealed,the samples collected have been taken for a laboratory test. According to District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat,the fake products were sold in Kanpur and adjoining areas. “A case under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act would be registered at the Chakeri police station against the owners of the unit. Neither do the owners have the licence to run the unit nor the brand names used — Buland (fruit bear) and Masoom (spices) — are registered,” said ADM (City) Shakuntala Gautam.

Probe into death in police custody
LUCKNOW: The Bareilly police have started a probe into the mysterious death of an accused in police custody on Friday. As Surajbhan (21) — an accused wanted in a 2009 case — was on the run,the police on Thursday had initiated the process of attachment of property following a court order. Following this,Surajbhan’s mother Rama and brother-in-law Sukhpal Singh brought him to the police station and he was taken to court. Suddenly,Surajbhan fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital. He was declared dead at 10.45 pm. However,SP (City) Rakesh Jolly claimed that the police had handed over Surajbhan to his family,after he was released on interim bail. He also claimed that Surajbhan had died of dehydration.

Four peacocks found dead in Kannauj
LUCKNOW: Four peacocks were found dead in the Nagla Madara area of Kannauj district on Thursday afternoon. According to the postmortem report,heat wave was the cause of death of the peacocks. The viscera of the peacocks,however,have been sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI),Bareilly. “The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when the locals of the area saw peacocks lying at a distance in the area. An FIR has been lodged under the Wildlife Act of the forest department to investigate the cause of death. “If anyone is found guilty,then we take action against the persons concerned,” said B D Rao,Divisional Forest Officer of Kannauj.

Over 1,000 ‘missing’ doctors get the boot
Lucknow: Taking doctors to task for absenting from work,the state government has dismissed over a thousand medicos from service.
Following an approval from Governor B L Joshi,the government has dismissed 1,053 doctors,who have been missing from work for nearly two decades,officials said. The doctors were either involved in private practice or were trying to evade new postings at other places,they said. Among those dismissed,45 were women. The complaint against some doctors dates back to 1991-92,officials said.
