Sale of plastic or polythene bags has been banned in the vicinity of rivers or any other water body after Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi gave his assent to an ordinance in this regard,an official spokesman said here today. “The Governor has given his assent to UP Plastic and Bio-Degradable Garbage and Waste (Use and Disposal) Ordinance,which makes areas around river and water bodies a no-polythene zone,” he said. As per the ordinance,no person will be allowed to dispose of plastic,polythene or any other type of bio-degradable waste in the Ganga river,he said.

4 held for making illegal ISD calls

Four people were arrested by a joint team of Uttar Pradesh ATS and Lucknow Police for allegedly making ISD calls worth Rs 44 lakh,without footing the bill,from BSNL post-paid connections acquired through fake documents. “The state ATS has been working on reports that a gang involved in making illegal ISD calls was active in Lucknow and Azamgarh…These calls were made to Inmar satellite phones,” Special DGP Brij Lal said here on Thursday. The four have been identified as Abu Sahma,Shafiullah alias Bablu Khan,Syed Zafar Abbas and Mukesh Kumar.
