Youth ‘abducts’ girlfriend,brother shot at
A girl’s brother was shot at while her boyfriend and his friends picked her up from her house forcibly in Nauchandi police station area of Meerut on Monday. The girl belongs to an upper caste family while the youth is a Dalit. The police arrested two of the youth’s friends but are yet to trace the couple — Parul Sharma (20) and Prasenjit Gautam (27). Meerut Range IG,Rajni Kant Misra,said Parul and Prasenjit had got married at a temple on October 26 last year. However,the girl’s father,Surendra Sharma had brought her back home from the youth’s place on December 19 assuring the couple that he would arrange their marriage with family rituals on December 24,he said. But,he added,the girl’s father later refused to arrange their marriage.

6 officials held in foodgrain scam
The Anti-Corruption branch of CBI,Lucknow zone,on Monday arrested six UP government officials including five in-charge officials of State Food Corporation (SFC) block godowns and in-charge of Provincial Co-operative Federation (PCF) purchase centre for their involvement in a foodgrain scam in Lakhimpur Kheri district. A CBI official said the in-charge officials of different godowns had diverted wheat worth Rs 5 crore to other places through a local transporter,Jagdish Prasad Gupta. Earlier,the CBI had arrested the transporter,Jagdish Prasad Gupta,in the case.
