The Varanasi police arrested the owner of a Tibetan restaurant on Friday for raping two girls from Orissa for the last two years and forcing them into manual labour. The girls — a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old — were rescued by his wife,a Tibetan, who brought them to the police.

The accused,Pimpa Chering, who is from Himachal Pradesh, was arrested. An FIR has been lodged at the Sarnath police station. The SP (City) Vijay Bhushan said medical examination has established rape. The relatives of the girls have been asked to take them back home.

Bhushan said Chering had visited Orissa over two years ago and brought the girls to his restaurant. He had forced them to work in the restaurant since.

Pimpa’s wife told police that her husband raped the 12-year-old girl several times. Two weeks ago,he had raped the younger girl. She herself was assaulted when she objected.

She brought the girls to the police when Pimpa attempted to rape one of the girls again on Thursday.
