Hockey: Impressive win for RCF Kapurthala

RCF Kapurthala scripted an impressive 9-2 victory against East Central Railway,Dhanbad in its league match of the 23rd All-India Invitation Prize Money Women’s Hockey Tournament being played at KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium,Lucknow.

Three more league matches were played on Friday. While Sports Hostel UP settled for a 2-2 draw in its match against Haryana XI,Shahbad Academy (Haryana) outclassed Saharanpur XI 5-0 while South Eastern Railway,Kolkata beat Lucknow XI by 7-0.

RCF Kapurthala exercised domination in their match against ECR,Dhanbad from the very onset of the play. Dodging past defenders intelligently,its forward Reema Maurya succeeded in breaking the ice in the very 2nd minute of the play. A Minz netted the equaliser in the 12th minute. However,bolstered by her initial success,Reema netted another goal in the 41st minute. Thereafter,Sukhmanjeet Kaur scored a goal through a penalty stroke in the 19th minute to consolidate the lead to 3-1. Thereafter,Lalrimruati (in the 20th and 27th minute) and Kamini Mishra ( 29th minute; 33rd minute through penalty corner) scored two goals each to make the half-time score 7-1 in favour of RCF Kapurthala.

Soon after the onset of the second-half,ECR player A Minz once again scored a goal to make the score 7-2. RCF skipper Vartika Singh sounded the boards in the 41st minute through a penalty-corner. Kamini Mishra too made use of another penalty corner awarded to RCF in the 65th minute to fashion a 9-2 win for the team.

Sports Hostel UP had to settle for a 2-2 draw in its match against Haryana XI. Vandana Katariya netted both the goals for the Hostel team. On behalf of Haryana,Monika Dahiya (15th minute; through penalty-corner) and Kirti Kharab (66th minute; through penalty stroke) found the target.

Helped by two goals by Ramneek Kaur and apiece each by Harjot Kaur,Rajwinder Kaur and Raman Deep Kaur,Shahbad Academy blanked Saharanpur XI 5-0.

B Xess and S Tete netted two goals each while Sarita Lakra,L Kerketta and A Kerketta struck apiece each as SER Kolkata defeated Lucknow XI 7-0 in another one-sided battle.

Babu,Durgesh shine
Impressive bowling efforts by Babu Yadav (5 for 19) and Durgesh Singh (5 for 25) helped Eram Cricket Club in defeating Paramount Club by 7 runs in their league match of the Shivli Prime Sports Cricket Tournament,in Lucknow on Friday.

Brief Scores: Eram Cricket Club: 97 all out in 16 overs ( Ravindra 25 not out,Jitendra Singh 19; Sagar 4 for 24,Prashant 2 for 24,Ashutosh 2 for 15); Paramount Club: 90 all out in 14.2 overs ( Sudhir 23; Babu Yadav 5 for 19,Durgesh Singh 5 for 25).

Jubilant Cup
RJ Group (UP) defeated Collage Group by two wickets to secure a berth in the all-important encounter of the Jubilant Cup. The final of the tournament which is in progress at Gajraula,will be held on March 10. Anshul Gupta who scored 70 runs off 51 balls which included nine fours and a six was declared ‘Man-of-the-match’.

Brief Scores: Collage Group: 190 all out in 24.2 overs; RJ Group (UP): 192 for two in 34.4 overs.
