Hate speech: NSA against two BJP MLAs revoked

The orders of the board has been sent to Muzaffarnagar DM who has forwarded the same to jail authorities.

The National Security Act (NSA) Advisory Board in Lucknow on Thursday revoked detention of BJP MLAs Sangeet Singh Som and Suresh Rana under National Security Act (NSA).

The Muzaffarnagar District Magistrate (DM) had invoked NSA on both the MLAs who are currently lodged in Muzaffarnagar jail for their alleged provocative speeches in a mahapanchayat before communal riots broke out in Muzaffarnagar and other districts.

The orders of the board has been sent to Muzaffarnagar DM who has forwarded the same to jail authorities.

Muzaffarnagar DM Kaushalraj Sharma confirmed late this evening that NSA Advisory Board has revoked the NSA on both the BJP MLAs. “NSA advisory board’s directive has been sent to district jail authorities,” he added.

Muzaffarnagar jail superintendent Sewa Ram Chaudhary confirmed to have received the order about the NSA having been revoked on two BJP MLAs. But,he said,the MLAs will not be released from jail as both have yet to get bail in other cases.

Som is an MLA from Sardhana in Meerut while Rana is MLA from Thana Bhawan in Shamli district. Rana was arrested in Lucknow on September 20 while Som was arrested next day in Meerut. NSA was invoked on Som and Rana on on September 24 and 26,respectively.

Rana was booked under IPC sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant),153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion,race,place of birth,residence,language) 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty),435 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage to amount of one hundred) and 7 Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

Som was arrested on charges of sharing a video,which stoked communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and delivering inflammatory speeches at a panchayat held in Muzaffarnagar September 7,the day violence erupted in the district.
