President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said that along with the spirit of competition, the spirit of cooperation is necessary for strengthening society, as she urged the youth to harness their skills for nation-building.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Bharat Scouts and Guides and its 19th National Jamboree in Lucknow, Murmu said, “During the Jamboree, several competitions are being organised. From every competition, we get to learn new things. The team spirit gets strengthened, and it also inspires us to work harder. But, along with the spirit of competition, the spirit of cooperation is a must for the strengthening of the nation and society.”

“Today, India stands at a crucial juncture in its development journey. We have before us the goal of achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. This is possible only if 65 per cent of our population, which is under the age of 35, makes a determined effort to achieve this goal,” she said.

“The government is making efforts to provide a suitable platform for the youth. Initiatives like ‘Mera Yuva’, which is dedicated to empowering the youth and channelling their energy for nation-building, are crucial,” she added.

Advocating India’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – One Earth, One Family, One Future, the president said that humanity’s secure future rests upon human values, dialogue, trust, and spiritual consciousness, and added that at a time when the world is dealing with numerous challenges, this message becomes even more relevant.

Stressing environmental protection, Murmu said that adopting eco-friendly habits in daily life is crucial to addressing global environmental challenges.

“If all young people move forward in life, embracing the Scouts and Guides’ principle of being ‘friends of nature’, our planet will become greener and more prosperous,” she said.

The president further said that the Scouts’ greatest strength is their spirit of service. “Whether it’s a flood, an earthquake, or an epidemic, the Scouts and Guides are always at the forefront of assisting,” she said.

“Today, there are more than 63 lakh Scouts and Guides in India. Bharat Scouts and Guides is among the largest Scouts and Guides organisations in the world. In this organisation, the number of guides, that is girls, is more than 25 lakh, which is a significant achievement,” Murmu added.

Appreciating the Brahma Kumaris for promoting meditation, human values, women’s empowerment, and education, Murmu called their service “inspiring and commendable.”

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his deputies Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and his Mizoram counterpart Lalduhoma were also present on the occasion.

In his address, Adityanath said that terrorism, unrest, and global disturbances stem from uncontrolled mental tendencies. “India’s tradition has interpreted such destructive impulses as a form of terrorism,” he said, adding, “India continues its fight — physically and spiritually — against these forces.”

Governor Anandiben Patel said that attending the Jamboree was a matter of pride for her. She said that she had the opportunity to witness the skills of the participants during both the inauguration and closing sessions.

Rajyogi Dr Brahma Kumari Mrityunjay, Additional General Secretary, Brahma Kumaris & President (Education Wing), Mount Abu was also present at the programme.
