Govt suspends 22 doctors in NRHM scam

In a significant action against medical officials involved in National Rural Health Mission scam in Lucknow,State Health Minister Ahmad Hasan today suspended 22 doctors of the department.

In a significant action against medical officials involved in National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Lucknow,State Health Minister Ahmad Hasan today suspended 22 doctors of the department.

These doctors were found to be involved in bungling of NRHM funds by the CBI,which is conducting an inquiry into the NRHM scam in Lucknow. The CBI had earlier sought permission from the state health department for prosecution of several medical officers involved in the scam.

The names of former CMO Dr AK Shukla and Dr Indrajeet Yadav,who have already been suspended,were also in the list released today. The other 20 included 14 superintendents,one district TB officer,one district project manager,one additional CMO and three medical officers posted,all posted in Lucknow,said a government press release.

The doctors are accused of financial bungling including payment for ambulances in various hospitals,when actually the vehicles used were private cars and vans and irregularities in implementation of blindness control programme and other programmes run under NRHM.
