The UP Police has invoked the Gangster Act against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Dhananjay Singh and four of his alleged accomplices Ashutosh Singh,Puneet,Dabboo and Suneet who are allegedly involved in a case of double murder in Jaunpur.
Singh was arrested from Lucknow by a joint team of Lucknow and Jaunpur police on December 11,on the request of Crime Branch-CID which is investigating the murder of contractor Sanjay Nishad and a tea stall owner Nandlal in Belva village of Kerakat on April 1,2010.
ADG Law and Order Subesh Kumar Singh said that the Gangster Act was imposed on Dhananjay Singh for his alleged involvement in several crimes. He said that Ashutosh Singh is out on bail, but Puneet,Dabboo and Suneet are absconding. Now,it will be difficult for Singh to get bail.
A history-sheeter of the Sikrara police station in Jaunpur,Singh once carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head. The BSP government had withdrawn some of the cases against him. He was suspended from the BSP on September 21 after he visited ailing Amar Singh in AIIMS.
On November 20,Chief Minister Mayawati revoked the suspension of Singh and some other partymen, saying they had expressed regret for their mistakes. However,Singh said he had done nothing wrong and his suspension was politically motivated.
