Gadkari asks BJP to wrap up state polls by April-end

Party sources say national president Nitin Gadkari has asked the state unit to complete the election process positively by April-end.

The organisational elections began in January after the primary membership campaign ended in December.

The four-tier elections begin with booth committees,followed by zonal committees or mandal samitis,district committees and finally the state body elections.

Explaining the delay,a senior party leader said,“Many booth committees saw re-elections as workers complained of bias and favouritism.”

In Lucknow and Gorakhpur,where the mandal elections for both the mahanagar and the district — the two divisions in the district level committees — are yet to take off.

State election in-charge Ashok Dhawan said they are trying their best to maintain the deadline. “Our zonal elections will be over by March-end,and the district elections in the next 10 days.”
