Kapildeo Yadav,SP leader and former MLA,was shot dead by unidentified men in Majwara on Sunday afternoon. His driver Dev Nath Yadav,who was injured in the attack,later died in the district hospital. Police said Yadav had gone to visit his friend Dr Ram Yadav. He was accompanied only by his driver. On reaching the clinic,when Yadav alighted from his vehicle,two youths greeted him. One of them touched his feet,while the other shot Yadav in the head. He slumped on the ground.
As Yadavs driver tried to pick up the former MLAs licensed revolver from the dashboard,a third man shot him. The assailants them made off in three waiting motorcycles,driven by three associates. We are working on several angles, said Mau SP Onkar Singh. Yadav had never asked for police protection.
The police suspect the murder took place due to old rivalry.
Yadavs son-in-law Subhash Yadav said: We cannot say who has done this. He was popular,so many people did not like him.
The former legislator,who retired as a principal of an intermediate college,had 12 criminal cases against him,including those of murder and attempt to murder. He was a manager of two degree colleges in Mau. Yadav (66) is survived by wife Chuvari Devi and son Ram Vilas Yadav,who is principal of Mohammad Ali Inter College. He also has five daughters,all married.
A resident of Indara locality in Mau,Yadav had won the 2002 assembly election on BSP ticket from Nathupur. He also contested the Lok Sabha election in 2004 from Ballia and lost to Chandrashekhar. In the 2007 assembly election,Yadav fought unsuccessfully as a SP candidate from Ghosi constituency in Mau and lost to BSPs Phagoo Chauhan. ens
