Former LU student union president held on fraud charges

The former president of the Lucknow University students union was arrested on Tuesday on charges of fraud.

Shailendra Singh alias Shailu has been accused of trying to capture an 8,000 sq feet plot in Gomti Nagar belonging to a Gorakhpur-based property dealer by producing fake documents.

K D Agarwal,the property dealer,had lodged a complaint at the Gomti Nagar police station alleging that Singh was trying to capture his plot and threatening him.

During investigation,Singhs associate Shivanandan alias Raghunandan had told the police that the property belonged to his aunt. We asked Shivanandan to show the registration paper of the land. When we cross checked the documents,we found that they were fake, said Paresh Pandey,Additional Superintendent of Police (Trans Gomti).

We also found that Singh was backing Shivanandan. They used to visit land and threaten Agarwal over the phone, said Vinay Gautam Station Officer of Gomti Nagar police station.

Shivanandan is presently absconding.

Singh had unsuccessfully contested the last Lucknow Mayor election as an Independent candidate.
