A former MLA and minister of Bihar,Prabhunath Singh,was found dead in Vaishali Express near Gonda on Monday. He was on his way from Delhi to Bihar.
Sunil Rai,the Government Railway Police (GRP) Station Officer at Basti,said: We have conducted postmortem but the cause of death has not been ascertained. We have preserved the viscera for further examination.
The SO said as the train left the Gonda station,the passengers found him lying conscious and informed the TTE in coach B-1. Subsequently,the Basti GRP was informed about the matter and the police took the body to the district hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The Gorakhpur GRP Superintendent of Police,Prakash Tripathi,told The Indian Express: The luggage of Singh was found intact and no injury mark was visible on the body. He was found dead on a berth.
Singh (69),a native of Chhapra district of Bihar,had been a Congress MLA twice from Taraiyan constituency in Sarna district from 1972 to 75 and 1980 to 85. He also served as a minister in the Bihar government from 1980 to 85.
His son Rajiv Ranjan said: My father had been a patient of diabetes and high blood pressure for several years but was still active and had gone to Delhi a week ago. We are surprised over his sudden death,as he was absolutely fine when my cousin had dropped him at the Delhi station last night.
We do not suspect any foul play behind the death,but the police must probe if the death was not normal,he added. The body was handed over to Rajiv late in the evening.
His son has not yet lodged any complaint so far, said Rai.
Singh was executive director of Delhi School of Professional Studies & Research after his retirement as head of the Economics Department of the Bihar University in 2001.
