New show on UTV bindaas has rich kids surviving without the generous dole

In its third season,Big Switch, the reality show on UTV bindaas that swaps lives, has children of millionaires struggling for money in jobs like pizza/courier delivery and housekeeping in hotels. Hello…are they making mockery of the have-nots and their travails?

“You should see the metamorphosis these boys and girls undergo…one of them went door to door delivering mail and parcels and broke down when one recepient of the courier offered him a glass of water. In tears, the young boy said he would be more kind next time someone comes knocking at his door to deliver a pizza or something,” said Natasha Suri,ex-Miss India, who was part of the show’s first season and is anchoring this time.

In Lucknow on Wednesday,Suri said this time the show blurs the social divide and gives the rich and not so rich an insight into each others’ lives, mindset, etc.

“We had rich people sending their kids to us. Each of the young boy or girl on the show—between 19 and 23 years of age—had made some big demand or the other to their parents like for a Hummer or for a trip to New York. The parents accepted to fulfill the demands but with the rider—that they must go through the Big Switch grind to get what they want,” said Suri, who has stuck to anchoring for various channels, rather than taking up acting assignments. “I enjoy anchoring shows. But acting is on my agenda too and I am considering some offers that have come my way.” Judge on the show is film director Rohit Shetty, all of whose films, including the Golmaal series and Singham have been money-spinners. “He had humble beginnings,so he is most grounded and absolutely unlike the unrealistic stuff in his movies. I love all the films he has made, though he has not offered me any role,” said the anchor of the show that goes on air from Christmas day.
