Five minor siblings, allegedly abducted by a rickshaw-puller,were rescued during a vehicle checking drive in Ghazipur area of Lucknow late on Friday evening.

The rickshaw-puller,who was accompanying the children, fled the spot when he saw the policemen conducting the drive.

Gomti Nagar CO Manish Mishra said: “We were checking vehicles at the Aravali Marg crossing when the constables spotted five children. The eldest child — Sahiba (6) — said a rickshaw-puller was accompanying them who escaped when he saw us.”

After coming to know that Sahiba belongs to the Thakurganj area, the CO informed the concerned police station of the incident. He then came to know that a woman had lodged a missing complaint for her five children.

“The rickshaw-puller lured us with chocolates and a free ride. So,we accompanied him,” said Sahiba.

The children were handed over to their father Mohammad Qamar, who is a sweeper with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation.
