FIR names two, teachers serve 48-hour ultimatum

A day after AU professor RR Tiwari was assaulted by a group of students for allegedly forcing a physically challeneged B.Tech student to quit,the identity of the culprits is yet to be ascertained. The students had also vandalised the Science faculty and thrashed another professor CK Dwivedi.

The FIR mentions names of Musadik and Shadab,with 50 others as unidentified. The case was registered under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder),323 (voluntarily causing hurt),147 and 148 (pertaining to rioting) and other sections of the IPC. Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act has also been invoked.

AU Chief Proctor Prof R K Upadhyaya said: “The professors have mentioned two names. We have given a set of photographs to the victims for identification. Police have been informed it.”

Meanwhile,the Allahabad University Teachers’ Association (AUTA) continued with its 48-hour ultimatum. AUTA president Girish Tripathi said: “We will hold another meeting on Monday to assess the situation and if we feel the need,we will not work till strict legal and disciplinary action are taken against culprits.”

AU PRO,Prof P K Sahu,who participated in the meeting along with Chief Proctor,Dean Students Welfare and the Registrar,said: “We don’t want to proceed with the case in a reactionary manner. We want to ensure a strong case is built against the culprits. For that,it is important the identity of the assailants is established.”

University teachers said there was a design behind the attack.

“The student in question has left the university. He submitted a letter saying he was withdrawing from the course,even before the examination began a couple of days of ago,” a teacher said.
