Kitted out in an opulent wedding dress, actor Kangana Ranaut emerged from behind a magnificent tree that made up the backdrop of JJ Valayas Day 4 show at the Pearls Infrastructure Delhi Couture Week. She sashayed down in an expensive-looking,encrusted creation that, informs the designer, took 100 craftsmen and 1200 hours to be put together. Earlier that evening,at Anamika Khannas show,it had been actor Anil Kapoor and the Aisha entourage Ira Dubey,Amrita Puri,Lisa Haydoncourting the runway to promote their film.
Though Khannas creations were high on style as usual,it was the image of Anil, looking picture perfect in his black sherwani, that stole the show. The casts presence drew attention to the film which releases in August. Incidentally,Khanna has designed a few costumes for the film. I started my career with modelling. The first time I walked the ramp was for Vimal fabrics, said the 50-year-old actor after the show.
Later,Ranaut dished out the tired rhetoric about her upcoming film.
Posing for the lensmen after the show, she purred about how she is a diva in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, which releases this month. Then, she turned her attention to Valayas garments. If Mughal-e-Azam has to be remade and Anarkali were to walk the ramp, she would wear his elegant creations, she said. Valaya, who believes that India is now ready for couture, had created limited-edition Alika jackets a cross between a shirt and a jacket and high-on-embroidery lehengas. His theme was a courtesanbased on a fictional character called Alika celebrating her bygone days.
