Former MLC Siraj Mehadi, who is considered to be close to BSP Rajya Sabha Member and former Union Minister Akhilesh Das,resigned from the primary membership of the ruling BSP and subsequently joined the Congress party on Saturday. Mehadi had joined the BSP before the 2009 Lok Sabha elections after leaving the Congress. He had also held the post of vice-president in the state Congress committee in the past.
Sources close to him said he was unhappy with the BSP leaderships failure to give him any reward for leaving the Congress party at the time of the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. He had hoped the BSP might give him a chance to become MLC for the second time. He was not selected even for the post of any corporation or board under the state government, a source close to him said. On being contacted,Mehadi confirmed his decision to join the Congress party. I met AICC General Secretary Digvijaya Singh in New Delhi today evening. After my meeting with the Congress leaders,I decided to resign from the primary membership of the BSP and then joined my old party Congress, he told this reporter over phone.
In his resignation letter,Mehadi has reminded the CM about her past assurance to constitute a committee to look into the problems of minority community. I wrote several letters to you seeking an appointment. I could not get reply to any of my letters to you, he wrote in his resignation letter.
